Welcome to Limestone Township, Montour County, PA!
Limestone Township, located in Montour County, Pennsylvania, has a rich history rooted in early settlement, agricultural development, and its strategic position along Limestone Run, a tributary of the West Branch Susquehanna River. Early settlement and formation of Limestone Township was originally part of Derry Township and was established as a separate entity in 1816. Its early history is tied to the broader settlement of Montour County, which was created on May 3, 1850, from part of Columbia County and named for Madame Montour, a prominent Native American and French interpreter. The township’s fertile fields made it one of the richest agricultural sections of Montour County, attracting early settlers who faced significant hardships but transformed the wilderness into productive farmland.
